Challenges and Solutions:

Excavating across compounds where there were numerous buried services in order to install new 132Kv feeder cables.

We excavated vertical shafts up to 4 metres deep, then constructed underground headings below the buried services. Installation of ducting for the cables, whilst avoiding excavating through the compound and eliminating the risk of striking buried services.

One of the challenges we encountered was causing potential damage to the cables, as the existing ducts under the building (works by others) were not suitably installed. To mitigate this possible risk blu-3 installed linings to ensure a smooth wall finish and avoid any damage.

Scope of the project:

  • Excavation and earthworks

  • Ducting installation

  • Installation of 132Kv cables through ducts and trenches, including supply into a new switchroom building

  • All reinstatements
