California Cycling Project

Danny Chaney, Chairman & CEO of blu-3 recently helped raise over £120,000 for children’s charity Cry in the Dark by completing a gruelling 600-mile bike ride in California.

Completed over the space of seven days, Danny and the team cycled down the west coast of America from San Francisco to San Diego, achieving a total elevation gain of 30,000ft – the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest.

Cry in the Dark was established in 1998. It provides the local community in Romania with palliative care for children and young people with incurable physical conditions and poor life expectancy, for example, childhood cancers or Leukaemia, and congenital conditions such as muscular dystrophy, as well as HIV/AIDS and TB.

Speaking of his achievement, Danny said:

I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has not only sponsored us but sent amazing words of encouragement to me and everyone else involved in the ride. I can’t say how much this meant to all of us and we couldn’t have done it without the support we received.

“This huge sum of money will go a long way towards changing the lives of children and families in Romania by providing programmes, projects and care at the hospice. It was one of the toughest weeks of my life but also one of the most worthwhile.
