blu-3 launches new mental health app at construction site to tackle stigma in the industry

We have launched Ownminder at our data centre project in Slough.

Ownminder is the first app-based mental health solution established solely to service the needs of the construction industry to motivate all workers to maintain their mind fitness.

The risk of suicide within the construction industry is over three times higher than the male national average, with two suicides reported every day. The new app is designed to be a preventative measure for mental health issues, building mind fitness in the same way people would work out physically by doing daily exercise. It provides tools for people to prevent a mental health emergency so action can be taken before a breakdown occurs.

Ownminder has been established by Dr Vanessa Moulton and Director, Tom Storey in collaboration with founding partners, blu-3, DGP Logistics, Erith, Lucas UK and Morrisroe, who have all invested in the production of the bespoke app.

At the Slough project, blu-3 held two induction sessions to roll out the launch of Ownminder, so the whole project team could be included across their shift patterns. Attendees were briefed on the platform and its benefits and shown how to use the app and receive support.

Tom Storey, Director at Ownminder, comments: “blu-3 takes the wellbeing of its staff very seriously and feedback from employees has been excellent. We’ve worked closely with the team to develop and deliver not only the Ownminder app, but project-specific ‘toolbox talks’ that focus on key topics from relationships through to workload management, and look forward to collaboratively improving blu-3’s ‘mind fitness’ at individual, company and industry level.”

Shane Faye, HSEQ & Sustainability Director at blu-3, says: ā€œHealth and wellbeing is something we take very seriously at blu-3, and is a passion of our CEO Danny Chaney. We already have our own company-wide initiatives in place, including having over 25 trained mental health first aiders located in offices and on every site. Our workforce is our most valuable asset and joining forces with Ownminder reinforces our commitment.

ā€œWe are very proud to be a founding partner of Ownminder. I believe it will break boundaries within the construction industry and as a result, I hope many more people will be able to get the help they need. During the launch at Slough, I was very pleased to see the majority of the team downloading the app there and then ā€“ everyone was very engaged and welcomed the platform.ā€
