blu-3 affirms sustainability success with Gold Supply Chain Award

Specialist infrastructure provider blu-3 has been awarded gold level certification from the Supply Chain Sustainability School (SCSS) for its commitment to supporting and advancing sustainability across the company. The success means the company has surpassed last year’s result after achieving silver level accreditation in 2019.

SCSS is an award-winning industry collaboration led by partners and members to generate a world class sustainable environment. It encourages companies to implement practices and processes that enable more eco-friendly business operations throughout the supply chain.

Alan Withers, Head of International Procurement at blu-3, said: “Our latest accreditation follows on from the successful review in 2019 which secured the company silver level certification. We are extremely proud of achieving gold level status, and it’s a great acknowledgement of the hard work our procurement team carries out each day as we continue our sustainability drive.”

The accreditation enables the company to utilise a broader range of SCSS platforms to promote collaborative sustainability networking and enhance strategic learning capabilities.

Alan added: “Sustainability is a key part of our procurement operations at blu-3 and enables us to implement an eco-friendly mindset throughout the business. This latest accreditation is a significant step in us taking the company forward as we strive to become a world class provider of infrastructure and employer of choice in the construction industry.”

During the assessment, blu-3 was judged on its demonstrable understanding of modern slavery, environmental and sustainability issues, Building Information Modelling (BIM), off-site production and innovation.

The team, led by Environmental Advisor Janna Steadman and Plant Manager Gaynor Sharp, also produced an in-depth case study on the company’s use of electric and hybrid plant machinery and how its benefits outweigh those of traditional diesel options.

blu-3 will continue to be assessed yearly to ensure the continued improvement of procurement and supply chain initiatives, and ultimately improve the sustainability of the business and the wide-reaching supply chain.
